Canadian Ford Owners Urged to Check Recall Notices

Ford has issued a safety recall in Canada affecting certain 2018–2024 Ford Expedition SUVs after identifying a defect that could increase the risk of injury to vehicle occupants.

According to Transport Canada Recall 2026279, chrome trim located on the centre console may deteriorate over time. If the trim begins to peel or separate, sharp edges could develop that may cause cuts or lacerations to drivers or passengers who come into contact with the affected area.

The recall serves as a reminder that even seemingly minor vehicle defects can result in significant safety concerns when they have the potential to cause injury.

What Is the Problem?

Transport Canada reports that the chrome plating on the centre console trim may not adhere properly to the underlying material. Over time, the trim could bubble, peel, or separate from the console surface.

If this occurs, the exposed edges may become sharp enough to cause cuts during normal use of the vehicle.

Ford has indicated that the issue is related to manufacturing variations that may affect how the chrome plating bonds to the trim component.

How Many Vehicles Are Affected?

Ford has confirmed the recall applies to certain model-year 2018 through 2024 Expedition vehicles sold in Canada.

While Transport Canada has not publicly highlighted a Canadian vehicle total in its recall summary, the related U.S. recall affects approximately 548,000 Ford Expedition SUVs.

Canadian owners should not assume their vehicle is unaffected simply because they have not experienced any symptoms. Ford recommends checking the recall status using the vehicle's VIN number.

Have There Been Injuries Reported?

According to information released through the related U.S. recall investigation, Ford received numerous customer complaints regarding peeling trim and sharp edges.

Recall documentation associated with the U.S. action reported one accident and multiple injury allegations potentially connected to the defect. Some reported injuries required medical attention.

It is important to note that these reports were associated with the broader North American recall and were not identified as Canada-specific incidents.

What Should Owners Do?

Ford advises owners of affected vehicles to monitor recall notifications and schedule repairs once instructed to do so.

Dealers will inspect affected vehicles and replace the centre console trim components if necessary. The repair will be completed at no cost to the owner.

Owners can verify whether their Expedition is included in the recall by checking their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) through Ford Canada's recall lookup system or Transport Canada's online recall database.

Why Recall Awareness Matters

Vehicle recalls occur regularly across the automotive industry and are intended to identify and correct safety-related defects before more serious incidents occur.

While many recalls involve preventive repairs, ignoring a recall can increase safety risks and potentially affect a vehicle's reliability and resale value.

For Ford Expedition owners, taking a few minutes to check recall status and arrange repairs when available is a simple step that can help keep drivers and passengers safe.
