On April 19, 2026, I’ll be lining up once again for the Vancouver Sun Run. I won’t be the fastest runner out there, not even close. But that’s never really been the point. Last year was my first time participating, and I approached it with a simple plan: run for 7 minutes, walk for 2. Repeat. It was manageable, structured, and—most importantly—it got me across the finish line. That experience stayed with me. Not because of the time on the clock, but because I showed up and followed through.

This year, I’m changing the approach. I’ll be running for 30 minutes and walking for 10.It’s still not fast. It’s not flashy. But it’s progress. And progress, I’ve learned, is what these events are really about.

It’s Not Just a Race

Events like the Sun Run have a way of bringing people together in a way that’s hard to replicate elsewhere. Thousands of individuals, each with their own story, their own pace, and their own reason for being there. For me, it’s about setting a goal and seeing it through.

The Power of Follow-Through

Training for a 10K forces a different kind of discipline. It asks you to show up on the days you don’t feel like it. To keep going when progress feels slow. To trust that small, consistent effort actually adds up to something.

Running 30 minutes at a time isn’t something I could have done comfortably a year ago. Now, it’s part of the plan. That shift didn’t happen overnight. It came from showing up—again and again.

Community Makes It Possible

There’s also something powerful about knowing you’re not doing it alone. Even if you train by yourself, race day reminds you that you’re part of something bigger. The energy, the encouragement from strangers, the shared experience—it all creates momentum that carries you forward.

See You at the Start Line

So on April 19th, I’ll be there again. Not chasing speed. Not chasing perfection. Just following through. Because sometimes, the biggest win isn’t how fast you finish—it’s that you showed up at all.
