Langley residents who care about the planet, sustainability, and intergenerational hope have a rare opportunity: David Suzuki, one of Canada’s most celebrated environmentalists, is coming to speak in Langley. This event is being hosted in partnership with the Langley Senior Resources Society (LSRS), a venerable local non-profit that has championed older adults for decades.

Who Is David Suzuki?

David Takayoshi Suzuki is a Canadian geneticist, broadcaster, and environmental activist. He earned his PhD in zoology from the University of Chicago and later became a professor in genetics at the University of British Columbia.

He is perhaps best known as the host and narrator of the long-running CBC television series The Nature of Things, which has made complex scientific and environmental issues accessible to the public.

In 1990, Suzuki co-founded the David Suzuki Foundation, a respected environmental nonprofit focused on climate change, sustainability, biodiversity, and connecting people with nature.

Over the years, he has become a leading voice urging governments and citizens to take serious action to mitigate climate change, protect ecosystems, and promote sustainable practices. His personal experiences, including the internment of his Japanese Canadian family during World War II, shaped his convictions about justice, community, and connection to the environment.

Spotlight on Langley Senior Resources Society

The Langley Senior Resources Society (LSRS) is a non-profit organization serving adults aged 50 and over in both the City and Township of Langley.

Since its founding in 1982, LSRS has offered social, recreational, educational, food, health, and supportive services aimed at keeping older adults active, connected, and cared for.

They operate through two main locations, including a Recreation Centre and an Adult Day Program. LSRS is supported by a volunteer Board of Directors, over 100 volunteers, and dedicated staff.

Programs include fitness classes, educational workshops, social gatherings, meals, wellness programs, and outreach services, all designed to help older Langley residents live fulfilling, engaged lives. By bringing David Suzuki to Langley, LSRS continues its mission of enriching community life, fostering intergenerational awareness, and encouraging civic engagement, especially around environmental stewardship.
