I recently had the pleasure of chatting with Shivangi Patel, a mom, entrepreneur, engineer, and AI innovator who is on a mission to help businesses stop losing customers because of missed phone calls. What started as a conversation about technology quickly became an inspiring discussion about entrepreneurship, family, community, and the future of customer service.
🎙️ Listen to my full interview with Shivangi Patel on the More Than a Business podcast here:
As a new mom to a 21-month-old toddler, Shivangi understands the value of time better than most. Between raising a family and building a growing business, she has learned how important it is to focus on what truly matters. Her passion for helping businesses grew from a simple observation: too many companies are missing opportunities because they cannot answer every phone call.
Whether it's a dental office, a property manager, a plumber, or a local restaurant, customers often reach voicemail, sit on hold, or never receive the information they need. In today's fast-paced world, that delay often means the customer simply moves on to a competitor.
Shivangi's company specializes in Voice AI Agents, intelligent virtual receptionists that answer calls 24/7, respond naturally to questions, qualify leads, book appointments, and provide customer support without the limitations of traditional automated phone systems.
What makes her approach unique is her ability to combine technical expertise with real-world business understanding. Originally trained as an engineer, Shivangi worked with industrial processes in India before immigrating to Canada. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she pivoted into software development, becoming a full-stack developer and embracing the emerging world of artificial intelligence.
Today, she is using that knowledge to solve a problem that affects businesses of every size.
As Shivangi explained during our interview, speed matters. Customers expect immediate answers. If a business misses a call today, it may lose a customer tomorrow. Voice AI bridges that gap by ensuring every inquiry receives attention, even after hours.
One of the most fascinating parts of our conversation was discussing how far AI has evolved. Modern voice agents are no longer robotic recordings that force callers through endless menu options. They can engage in natural conversations, answer questions in multiple languages, reflect a company's brand voice, and provide a much more personalized customer experience.
For small business owners, the impact can be significant. Rather than spending valuable time answering repetitive questions, business owners can focus on growth, customer relationships, and revenue-generating activities. Meanwhile, AI handles routine inquiries efficiently and consistently.
Shivangi is particularly passionate about helping local businesses because they are the backbone of our communities. She believes that when local businesses thrive, families and communities thrive as well.
One of the most powerful insights she shared was that successful businesses don't just sell products; they build trust. Technology alone isn't enough. Relationships, communication, and understanding customer pain points are what ultimately create long-term success.
As AI continues to reshape the business landscape, entrepreneurs like Shivangi Patel are proving that technology isn't here to replace people; it's here to empower them.
The businesses that embrace innovation today will be the ones leading tomorrow.
